Inter-modality

The decision to adopt inter-modal transportation was determined by two main factors:

• Firstly, the need to reduce road travel, thus reducing transport costs and,
• most importantly, the choice of this type of transport to significantly reduce emissions which pollute the environment.

The choice of inter-modal transportation is, therefore, a choice that we can define as advantageous in all senses. The advantages are ethical and economic. The possibility of transporting goods organised in standard cargo units which are concentrated in large terminals for logistics and carried on board vehicles with large cargo capacities, covering long distances with reduced costs per unit of distance offered the possibility of reducing transport costs.

Thanks to inter-modality or multi-modality, synonymous terms, it is possible, depending on the load requirement, to combine different means of transport: road-rail, road-sea, road-air and so on. In this way, you can benefit at the same time from the advantages of each of these means. From the economic point of view this translates into a reduction in costs, dictated by greater combined transport efficiency. This means that, from an environmental point of view, a reduction in environmental impact may also be achieved.
